Valentine's Day falls on a saturday. Initially, Ihave plans to take Brandon out. Just the 3 of us celebrating this day. Unfortunately, Brandon caught some viral and had fever. He woke up crying at 5 in the morning. I guess it was the heat, so gave him some paracetamol and it was gone within an hour. Fever came back at 11 after his morning nap and took him to Dr Ooi.
Dr Ooi check him and we had a hard time opening his mouth to see if he has got sore throat. We had to force open his mouth. Of course, professionally. Nope, no sore throat. So doc says it must be some virus. Gave him some bufen, she calls it. Works the same as paracetamol but different ingredients.
Went home, gave him his lunch. and gave him his medicine. Funny, this time he doesnt want to take medication. He struggles abit. but with some persistency from his mum, he gave in.
He din want anything for dinner. So gave him some milk. and he was fine for a while. Still at 37.8.
Nite time came and his temperature went up to 38.5. Went to sleep at 9pm and woke up 11pm crying and vomitted. changed him, took him to the bathtub and sponge with, i guess after that he felt better as the water cooled him down. gave him the medication again and went back to sleep with me carrying him.
Woke up at 3pm, and he was burning. he went up to 39.9, so scary. So packed his clothes to the emergency at SJMC, vomitted again. This time, sponge him all over. Temperature came down and we rushed him off to SJMC.
Doctor checked him and says its viral and that he had mild sore throat. Viral will make him vomit sometimes. Asked if we want to do a blood test and urine test but i said No. Not necessary cause the fever only 1 day. wont show anything - this is according to the emergency doc. So why ask me many times if i want to go ahead with the test. Why want to put him through all the pain and trauma knowing very well that it will not show anything?
they put in the sabostary and sent us home. his fever droped , Thank God. Called Dr Ooi to inform her about his condition, and I went back to her clinic to get some medication - some enzyme for his throat. and she gave me some schedule to control the temperature. every 3 hours alternate both medicaiton - bufen and paracetamol. wow, works amazingly. his temperature came under control. Gave him a shower and i guess he felt better because he was running and dancing and best activities for him, disturb his sister. haha.
He went to bed and we monitored his temperature until midnite, at 3.3o in the morning, his temperature went up to 38.2 and we gave him the sabostary. He was angry at his daddy for putting in something in his anus. Hanging on to me and asking his daddy to go away. Settled him down and fever was gone.
I had to leave him for work while he was still sleeping. He must have woke up crying for me and his daddy made a video call and he was crying there asking for me. Felt so bad. But am sure he is in good hands today. This is one of the advantage if your child is under the care of family.
Called doc today to see if i should follow the schedule back and because he has fever again last nite, its better to follow for another day. So today he is going to have his medication for every 3 hours. Poor boy.
I put up this post and out down every details because i want myself to remember this. I want us to remember how we tend to him during all his sickness. So maybe one day we could use one of these tactics taught by the doctors.
Prevention is better than cure
